It’s that time of year, so embrace it! Christmas is soon upon us, so get into the festive spirit by wrapping up warm and heading out to the best Christmas markets London has to offer.
Danish Christmas Market The Danes are nuts about Christmas. So thankfully here in London we can soak up some of their enthusiasm by going to a special Danish Christmas market during the weekend of November 25th/26th. Here you will be able to find all things classic Danish, from heart shaped tree decorations and pints of Tuborg, through to pølse hotdogs and open top sandwiches. Organised by the Danish YWCA which focuses on supporting young Danes in London, this will make even the most bah humbug of people melt with Crimbo cheer. 43 Maresfield Gardens, London NW3 5TF.
Winter Wonderland If you want to go big, then this is the Christmas market for you. Winter Wonderland is Hyde Park’s homage to the maximum possible festive fun. Expect an extravaganza. You can spend a lost day here, drinking cocktails and doing Karaoke, losing yourself in the UK’s biggest ice rink (preferably before the cocktails) and the 200 fairy-lit Bavarian wooden chalets where you can do all of your Christmas shopping in one place. And if you’re not too exhausted after that, you can catch a show or listen to some free live music.
Hyper JapanAfter something a little different? Then this is the place. Head to Tobacco Docks over the weekend of November 25th-27th and you will experience Japanese Christmas shopping in the heart of East London. This is the biggest celebration of East Asian culture and cuisine to be found in the UK. Crafts, art, sake cocktail drinking, authentic food stalls and live performance? Yes please. However, the highlight has to be the ‘Akari’ traditional Japanese illuminations – just magical.
Wintertime Market SouthbankOne of London’s busiest Christmas markets will be taking place at the South Bank from now until January 4th. Pitched up outside the Southbank Centre, this market is an enchanted escape in the centre of London, for visitors and Londoners alike. Wooden Nordic-style chalets will be selling scrummy food, drinks, and an abundance of gifts for all the family. There will also be mysterious Nordic Gonks creatures peppered across the site, created by Hemmingway Design. Oh, and we can’t forget an abundance of Christmas trees, rooftop sauna, fondue in a snow globe, fairground ride and a roller disco.
