A Guide to the Jubilee Weekend’s Biggest Events in London

Get ready to enjoy a fun-filled four-day weekend from Thursday 2nd- Sunday 5th June to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. This is a historical milestone as the Queen is the first British Monarch to celebrate 70 years of service. There are several exciting events taking place in London across the weekend.

Trooping the Colour- Thursday 2nd June

The first official event kicking off the Jubilee Weekend is Trooping the Colour. Taking place on Thursday 2nd June at 10am, this event marks the Queen's official birthday. Over 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians will come together for a fantastic display from the Horse Guards Parade to Buckingham Palace. The Queen and her family will then gather on the balcony of the palace to watch the RAF flypast.

Platinum Jubilee Beacons- Thursday 2nd June

Also taking place on Thursday 2nd June is the lighting of the Jubilee beacons. This is a tradition that takes place over every Jubilee. You can catch a glimpse of the lighting of the Principal Beacon at Buckingham Palace at 9:45pm.


Superbloom – Across the month of June

Taking place across the month of June until September 2022, the moat of the Tower of London will be filled with vibrant flowers to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Superbloom is designed to create a biodiverse habitat for wildlife, in the spring the moat will be sown with seeds ready to burst into colour this summer. This will make a fun-filled trip for the family, as you can grab a mat on arrival and slide down the Superbloom slide! There will also be sculpture artwork and sound installations to fully immerse yourself into nature.


You can view the spectacle from the public viewing path for free, or you can walk amongst the wilderness for a small price, but you should know, you will need to get yourself a ticket even for the free viewing.


Platinum Party At The Palace- Saturday 4th June

The Platinum Party At The Palace is one of the main events taking place over the weekend. The event on Saturday 4th June will present incredible design and technology, alongside performances from global musicians and a full live orchestra. Actors from TV, stage and film will be telling stories and celebrating The Queen’s most significant moments from her reign.

Tickets to attend are no longer available, however this will be broadcast on national television.


The Platinum Jubilee Collection- Saturday 4th June

If you’re looking for an event outside of the official festivities, the Royal Festival Hall at the Southbank Centre is hosting Raymond Gubbay’s Platinum Jubilee Collection where you can hear the beautiful sounds of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, combined with the Royal Choral Society and the Bach Choir, alongside a variety of soloists. The Big Jubilee Lunch- Sunday 5th June

The Big Jubilee Lunch is an annual celebration to bring together communities and this year it will be held as a part of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations! Taking place on Sunday 5th June, you can plan something yourself or check out The Big Lunch Map to see what public events are going on in the area. There’s plenty of fun and creative things to do to get involved, from crafting your own crowns and decorations, to enjoying some traditional British delicacies.


You can find some fabulous afternoon tea selections at some of the Park Plaza hotels across London, as they will be adding Jubilee themed cakes and pastries to their afternoon teas over the weekend. You can also expect for some delicious Jubilee themed cocktails to be available as well as crafting sessions for children.


The Platinum Jubilee Pageant- Sunday 5th June

The Platinum Jubilee Pageant is the last official event of the Jubilee weekend and the largest. The ‘River of Hope’ will be the main part of the pageant, this is an arts-based project. Students from schools across the country will create pictures of their aspiration for the planet in the future and a selection will be placed onto 200 silk flags. These will proceed down The Mall, appearing like a moving river and will highlight The Queen’s love and respect for the natural environment.


Ed Sheeran will be headlining this event and he will be joined by many other celebrities including Sir Cliff Richard, Alan Titchmarsh, Gary Lineker, Basil Brush, plus more! You can also enjoy a performance by 11-year-old drumming phenomenon Nandi Bushell.
