Some London bars and restaurants you should only visit at night

Updated: Feb 16, 2019

Even though New York is traditionally known as the city that never sleeps, I am here to tell you (having experienced both first hand) that London has just as much to offer in the way of late night hangouts. Whether you’re looking for a place to carry on the party, grab a delicious barista coffee or even sit down for a 3-course meal, London has all bases covered and here are just a few of the best spots you need to know about…

1. Duck and Waffle, Bishopsgate

Can you even call yourself a Londoner if you haven’t booked a 5am table at Duck & Waffle to watch the epic sunrise from the 40th floor of the Heron Tower? Open 24 hours a day, this restaurant really should be on everyone’s London bucket list. Just be sure to book ahead so you’re not left disappointed.

2. Balans Soho Society (Soho and various locations across London)

With a refreshing open-door policy that allows anyone to show up to enjoy the fun, Balans is the perfect place to go if you want to eat some great food, have a late night drink or just hang out with your mates. It’s open until 5am most nights – sometimes later – so your night really is just beginning when you walk through their doors.

3. Canavan’s Pool Club, Peckham

Who knew that Peckham’s liveliest after-hours joint would be a retro pool hall? But, believe us, it’s true. It even has a nifty little Funktion One sound system tucked away on its 100-capacity dancefloor, so you can party on well in to the early hours (well, 4am anyway!).

4. Tinseltown Diner, Farringdon

Whilst there are quite a few chains of the loveable American Diner Tinseltown, Farringdon is the original and the only one that stays open to serve their secret recipe burgers and milkshakes until 4am.

5. Village Underground, Shoreditch

Every city needs a venue like Village Underground, which plays host to a veritable smorgasbord of music events for all to enjoy. It is also famed for staying open in to the wee hours, so there’s no reason for the fun to stop.

6. Polo Bar, Liverpool Street

Polo Bar has proven itself a firm favourite amongst Londoners, serving up tasty old school café food 24 hours a day in their retro setup. They even have an alcohol license if you and your friends fancy a tipple.

7.Prince Charles Cinema, Leicester Square

Even though the Prince Charles cinema isn’t open specifically for late night guests, they frequently host all-nighters, more often than not in gorgeously retro 35mm presentation. Basically, if you’re a film buff you need to visit this place.
