A Royal Fanatic’s Guide to London

Updated: May 17, 2019

By AMANDA GEGG, FEBRUARY 2018

As I’m sure anyone who is a fan of the British Monarchy would agree, there is nothing quite like the excitement of a Royal Wedding. Oh yes, on Saturday 19th May 2018 His Royal Highness Prince Harry will wed the love of his life – Hollywood-star Meghan Markle – at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor and the world couldn’t be happier about it. Therefore, in anticipation of one of the most adored members of the royal family tying the knot, we have put together for you a ‘Royal Guide to London’, so you can follow their journey and make your own plans for the big day

Kensington Palace and Gardens

Given that this is the place where Prince Harry proposed to Meghan (whilst they were cooking a roast a chicken in their private cottage, no less), you couldn’t pick a better location to start your royal tour than Kensington Palace and its gorgeous gardens.

Windsor Castle (and St. George’s Chapel)

If you haven’t already made plans to line the streets of Windsor on the 19th May, its legendary castle is a fantastic day trip (reachable from central London within an hour by train). You can even book yourself a tour to stand inside the chapel where Harry and Megan will say ‘I do’.

Hampton Court Palace, Surrey

If you’re visiting Windsor Castle then there really isn’t any excuse not to take a further trip through time and hop on the train to the undeniably spectacular Hampton Court Palace, home to one of the first truly notorious monarchs, Henry VIII.

Buckingham Palace and Pall Mall

The sheer magnificence of the Queen’s official abode hasn’t lost any of its grandeur over the years and I defy anyone with a love for the Royals not to get excited by the stunning walk from Admiralty Arch, up Pall Mall, all the way to the palace gates.

Westminster Abbey

Even though it feels like Prince William’s wedding to Kate Middleton only happened yesterday, it was actually nearly 6 years ago, taking place at the splendorous Westminster Abbey like many a royal union before it.

Fortnum and Mason, Piccadilly

If you’ve ever wondered where the Queen does her shopping – or indeed where they first invented the scotch egg! – then you absolutely have to visit the original Fortnum & Mason store. You can even have tea in their Diamond Jubilee Salon, opened by Her Majesty in 2012.

The Goring, Westminster

For anyone wanting a taste of royal life, a visit to The Goring Hotel is essential. Not least because it is the closest hotel to Buckingham Palace and is the only establishment in the hotel industry to hold a royal warrant. Kate Middleton actually stayed here the night before she got married.
