A London Guide for the Over 50s

By Amanda Gegg

It goes without saying that London is the ultimate city for all ages, especially those looking for an experience to remember. The only problem really is sifting through the veritable treasure trove of choices available to you because, quite frankly, there are just too many.

However, London Revealed have done the hard work for you this time and below you’ll find our handpicked list of the best entertainment in London for the over 50s, taking in to account a range of different tastes and locations.

Best of Borough Market Cooking Class (Mimo London, Borough Market)

Even in itself, Borough Market is a fantastic place to visit but if you’ve ever wanted to perfect the journey from market to table then you can now sign up for the culinary experience of a lifetime: a cooking class with the world class Spanish chefs at Mimo.

‘The SoulTown Supper’ Immersive Dining Experience (Fest Camden and Proud Embankment)

We can safely say that if you’re Motown fan, The SoulTown Supper will tick all of the right boxes, whether you love good food, amazing live music or just having a good old boogie. Their incredible band will be busting out swinging sixties hits from the word go, so dancing shoes are strongly advised!

Oxo Tower (South Bank, SE1)

A perfect setting in both location and atmosphere; dinner at the Oxo Tower is a fabulous way to mark any special occasion. Alternatively if you want to make a day of it you could book yourself afternoon tea and stroll down to the Tate Modern before you sit down (it’s only a few minutes away).

Petersham Nurseries (Richmond)

Even though the success of Petersham Nurseries has allowed them to open up locations in Central London, we would still recommend a visit to their original site in Richmond. The Nursery and Garden Shop is still a wonder to behold and on a sunny day you really won’t find a more pleasant spectacle than the sight of all of the colourful flowers and rustic décor.

London Brewery Tours (Various Locations in London with UK Brewery Tours)

It can come as little surprise to hear that the popularity of brewery tours is growing all the time. After all, the idea of an afternoon spent sampling beer is a dream come true for many. But now people are also starting to realise that the process behind the brewing itself is just as intriguing and as a result the London Brewery Company have put together some great walking tours, stopping at several notable pubs along the way.

Sky Garden (20 Fenchurch Street, EC3M)

Still captivating visitors four years after its opening in 2015, the Sky Garden will add a touch of magic to any London visit. Whether you want to marvel at its plethora of exotic plants or enjoy a cocktail on the observation deck, this isn’t an experience you’re likely to forget any time soon.

West End Shows

This might seem like an obvious suggestion but the calibre of the London theatre scene is just too high to leave out. There are the classics, of course, like Les Miserables and Mamma Mia but if you fancy something different there are new shows being added all the time with many a celebrity appearance.

Buckingham Palace Tour (Westminster)

Timeless doesn’t really do justice to the majestic beauty of Buckingham Palace and a tour of the State Rooms at the Queen’s magnificent residence is certainly one for all ages to wonder at. And then there is the gift shop which is another marvel in itself…
