For anyone planning a European honeymoon, I strongly urge you not to underestimate London and the romance that can be found in its historic yet cosmopolitan streets. There is a reason why millions of couples flock here every year, and it’s not just for the thriving culture, fascinating history and celebrated nightlife (which, ok yes, we’ll admit are fantastic). If you give it half a chance, London can make for the honeymoon of a lifetime, packed full of memories you’ll treasure forever and here are just a few of the most romantic places to visit:
Greenwich ObservatoryAs if travelling to the origin of time itself – Greenwich Mean Time to be exact – wasn’t romantic enough, the Royal Greenwich Observatory also boasts one of the most breathtaking views of London you can find.
The Royal ParksWith over 8 royal parks (spread across 5,000 acres of land) to choose from, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to your romantic strolls. Our personal favourites are St. James’s, Hyde Park and, if you can make the journey out of central, Richmond Park is a deer-laden fairy tale.
The London Eye, SouthbankIt might be tempting to call the Coca Cola London Eye a cliché, but if you and your husband or wife haven’t ridden on this structural sensation before I guarantee the view will take your breath away.
The Shakespeare Globe, BanksideFor any newlyweds wanting to witness some first-hand romance at the heart of London’s theatre scene, there really is no place like the Shakespeare Globe and its stunning open-air rafters. Just be careful to check the weather forecast beforehand!
Clos Maggiore, Covent GardenHeralded ‘the most romantic restaurant in London’, Clos Maggiore isn’t your average dining experience, seating its guests beneath a breathtaking canopy of cherry blossom along with candle light and a crackling fire.
