Why I love to run

Updated: Nov 3, 2018

In London, if you want, you can find whatever you can ever wish for! This is why we love it!

As a keen runner, I really appreciate all the great opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors without having to travel miles to an isolated rural town. A typical Saturday morning for me will involve getting up nice and early and heading down to Hampstead Heath in North West London. Every week, hundreds of runners gather to run, timed 5k run where I can enjoy keeping fit whilst taking in the wonderful scenery of the heath.

I can then head over to the ladies’ pond for a quick open air swim immersed in a beautiful natural scenery, with ducks and frogs as my bathing companions!

Being in London, however, also means that after all the sport I can treat myself to a well-deserved breakfast! And the choice of cafes and bakeries are endless! I can head to Euphorium bakery for a scrumptious almond croissant and delicious coffee, or choose a more organic option with freshly baked bread and a green tea in Karma Bread House, or just pick up a latte to go in Starbucks!

There are also a number of excellent running clubs that organise special events, both in other parks, such as the Regents park 10k series, organised by Mornington chasers running club, or the Serpentine 10k series in Hyde Park. And if you’re injured or not up for running, why not volunteer to marshal a race? Not only you can visit some of the most beautiful parks in the world, but you can also socialise with friendly, like-minded fitness fanatics! What better way is there to feel good about yourself?

London is a truly magical city, where what you can imagine most likely is happening somewhere: for example, what about the fun runs? You name it, it’s happened in London!! Super-hero run, Santa run, nun run, gorilla run, where’s Wally run, colour run… And so many more!! In London nobody will judge you and fancy dress is just a way of living really!

So, what are you waiting for? Get out, get moving, have a laugh and enjoy! If the world is your oyster, London is the pearl that you were looking for!
