Top 6 Christmas markets in London

Mulled wine, Yorkshire Pudding wraps and fairground rides – what’s not to love about Christmas markets?

As the huts are erected, the smell of cinnamon and mince pies fills the air, Londoners begin to flock to the many Christmas markets dotted around this great city of ours. But which ones are worth wrapping up and heading out into the cold for?

Here we’ve picked some of the best:

Leicester Square Christmas Market

While most locals will avoid the tourist trap of Leicester Square like the plague, its Christmas market truly is a right to behold. A huge selection of food and gift stalls are complemented by the Spiegeltent – a performance space hosting fire breathers, cabarets, girl bands and even drag acts!

Open now until 5 January.

Winter Wonderland Christmas Market

It goes without saying that Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland would have a Christmas market to rival all Christmas markets – and this year is no exception. One of the largest in London, there are over 100 stalls offering gifts, jewellery and much more. Don’t forget to head to the outdoor ice rink to burn off some of the mince pies!

Open from 4pm 21 November until 5 January 2020 (10am till 10pm).

Christmas by the River – London Bridge City

Transport yourself to an après-ski with this iconic Christmas market in the heart of the city offering over 70 stalls with food, drink, gifts and crafts overlooking the stunning Tower Bridge.

Indulge in some festive refreshments in the alpine-themed bar The Scoop to warm your cockles or take part in Christmas jumper decorating at the pop-up workshop - and don’t forget those ultimate Insta pics in front of fairy lights and frosted cabins.

Open from 26 November until 5 January 11am till 10pm.

Southbank Centre’s Winter Festival

The South Bank is one of the most popular areas of the city, and with this charming Christmas market it’s clear to see why. Mix up your traditional gift shopping, mulled wine drinking and pigs-in-blankets eating with an arts performance. Christmas markets have never been so cultured!

Open now until 5 January.

Westfield Christmas Market

We all know Christmas is (some may say unfortunately!) a time for a lot of shopping – but that’s not to say you can’t stop off for a hot toddy or two at Westfield London’s Christmas market.

Independent retailers will be selling an assortment of unusual gifts, and the covered bar has a spectacular view of Westfield’s impressive Christmas tree, so soothe those tired feet and treat yourself.

Open from 20 November until 24 December.

Greenwich Market at Christmas

Greenwich Market is a staple love of all Londoners, but Christmas is when it is transformed into a winter wonderland. Not only is it a World Heritage Site, but with almost 120 stalls, music, street food and – yes, you guessed it – mulled wine, it’s the perfect festive day out. Take the kids to meet Santa in his grotto, then treat yourself to a hot toddy or three. Now it really feels like Christmas!

Open from 20 November until 24 December.
