The festive season will soon be upon is, so it’s time to start thinking of the big C-word! London is illuminated at this time of year, with Christmas lights seemingly adorning every corner of the capital. To help you choose where to take your family, friends and a well-deserved cup of mulled wine, we have pulled together the best Christmas lights in London.
1) Oxford Street
When you think of London Christmas lights, Oxford Street is normally the first to spring to mind.
This haven of all things shopping is transformed into a winter wonderland from early November with twinkling lights hanging over this famous street. The big switch-on is sure to be a huge
event with live music, performances and over one million spectators.
2) Covent Garden
For something with that wow-factor, head down to the famous Covent Garden where the market buildings and outdoor area are draped in 30,000 lights, with London’s biggest hand-picked Christmas tree the main attraction – 55ft tall and weighing 1.5 tonnes! There are mistletoe and glitterballs in the Market Building and an ‘infinity chamber’ light installation in Conduit Court.
3) The Enchanted Woodland – Syon Park
The Syon Park Enchanted Woodland event transports you out of west London and into a magical forest within the 600-year-old gardens. Over 400 different tree species are lit up in a rainbow of colours, with lasers and strobe lights putting the finishing touches to this spectacular event.
Enchanted Woodland is open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings from 15th November to 1st December this winter.
4) Shepherd Market
Nestled away in Mayfair, Shepherd Market is a real hidden gem of festive fun at Christmas.
Boutiques, pubs and brasseries stay open late on the night of the switch-on where visitors can enjoy mulled wine, mince pies and even a spot of carol singing.
5) Carnaby Street
Fancy huge shopping discounts and beautiful Christmas lights? This great combination can be found on Carnaby Street throughout November and December with special events galore and the local shops and bars offer discounts to celebrate the festive season. Last year’s decorations were Bohemian Rhapsody-themed so you can expect something equally impressive this year.
6) Seven Dials
Heading back towards Covent Garden and Seven Dials hosts another shopping-related Christmas lights switch-on. Last year’s event combined a live orchestra and free wreath making with a pop-up curling rink and – of course – an impressive light installation as well as discounts across shops, bars and restaurants in the arena.
